About Yoga

What is yoga?

If you thought that yoga was all about bending and twisting your body in odd shapes, it’s time to rethink. Yoga is much more. In very simple words, giving care to your body, mind and breath is yoga. This means that the century-old practice includes yoga postures (asanas), breathing techniques (pranayamas) and meditation. Through these, the body, mind and breath come in harmony with each other and that very moment yoga happens.

Benefits of yoga

They are many. Flexibility, rejuvenation, relaxation, supple spine, increased bone density, better circulation, co-ordination, body awareness, improved immune function, more efficient breathing, general health and well-being, and many many more. The practice of yoga has immense benefits for not just the body, but also for the mind, so that you enjoy a perfect healthy state of being.

About me

Welcome to purely yoga Folkestone

My name is Samantha and I’m a Qualified local yoga teacher, and hold classes in and around the Hythe and Folkestone area in Kent.

I am a full qualified yoga teacher, gaining my qualifications from Jenny Beeken with inner yoga trust, which is accredited by the British wheel of yoga. The governing body for yoga in the UK.

My own personal yoga journey started, when after being interested in starting some yoga practice for myself, I asked a local yoga teacher to come and teach a weekly session a my place of work in Folkestone, I loved it from the start, and when my teacher suggest I came along on a taster weekend, for people interested in wanting to become yoga teachers, I was hooked, I signed up for the the three year course there and then. Which took me out of Folkestone, travelling all over the country, It was an amazing journey of self discovery and yoga training. I qualified in 2008 and Purely Yoga Folkestone was born, I started teaching straight away. My journey into yoga has not finished and I am constantly evolving through my own practice and my teachers.

I love what I do and feel very lucky to be able to have the time to commit to my yoga.

My Yoga style

I teach Hatha yoga and believe that by giving our selves time and space to practice yoga, we start to undo tension, in our body and in our breath, that have built up over time, through our busy life styles. Firstly by coming to our yoga practice we can begin to start this re- connection and undoing. We then move with awareness into the postures, its not about making nice shapes with the body, but discovering a way of moving to undo the tension in the body safely.

Yoga with Samantha at Purely yoga Folkestone aims:

  • To create a haven from our busy lives.
  • To encourage space and time for you to re connect with yourself. Emotionally, physically, mentally.
  • To explore the postures gently and safely.
  • To give you individual and a personal experience.
  • To give you time to find out what it is you need from your yoga practice.
  • To allow and encourage your yoga practice to develop and grow at your pace.
  • To re connect you with your breathing pattern and to explore various breathing techniques safely.
  • To relax and have fun.

My classes run all through the year, so please see the Classes page for classes with Samantha at Purely Yoga Folkestone.
